Our aim is that students accommodated with us have a great University experience.

Our 8-bedroom cottages and two three-way bathrooms and common room are designed to promote a community and family-like environment that is a secure, inclusive and positive base from which students can explore University life.

Our Fairfax Centre is a central meeting point of the College that provides opportunity to meet with students from across the 8-bedroom cottages. It has recreational facilities, a commercial-grade kitchen, a piano, a keyboard, table tennis, pool table, as well as large screen TV with Netflix/Foxtel access and IT facilities and a common study area.

Each room has an individually controlled reverse cycle air conditioner for heating and cooling. Cottages have secure access using your CSU Student Card. Each bedroom has a bed, wardrobe, wireless internet, desk, chair, small refrigerator and a rubbish bin.

Cottages and Facilities

All cottages have a kitchen and common room with lounges and TV. The kitchen has a convection microwave oven, gas cook-top, kettle and toaster. Each cottage has a chest freezer for students to share. Each resident has a food storage cupboard in the kitchen. Cottages have a washing machine, clothes dryer & clothes lines for the use of St Martin’s students only.

The Fairfax Centre

The College also provides a central community area - the Fairfax Centre. The Fairfax Centre provides recreational space for music, table tennis and pool table, a study common with computers, photocopier, an area for small group discussion, a fully equipped kitchen with oven, BBQ area and office space. The St Marys Chapel offers space for worship and quiet reflection. There is also a student vegetable and herb garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is in my cottage?

The College consists of 12 cottages, a student flat, Chapel, Community Centre and Head of College Residence. Each cottage has eight bedrooms, a common room, kitchen laundry and bathrooms and is fully air-conditioned and heated. Each cottage is connected to the CSU IT network. Each cottage has a communal freezer and every resident has a food storage cupboard in the kitchen. In the laundry are a washing machine and clothes dryer for the use of St Martins students only. Kitchens, common rooms, bathrooms and toilets are cleaned daily on weekdays and student rooms are cleaned once a week by our friendly cleaning team.

+ How big is my room and what is in it?

Your room is 11 square metres and has a king single bed, wardrobe, desk, shelf space, chair and fridge. Also provided is a wireless data connection to the CSU network. St Martin’s provides a mattress protector and residents bring their own sheets, pillow and quilt or blankets. Linen may be supplied by the College for short term residents or international students. Cleaning is provided weekly for all rooms. There is also a reverse cycle air conditioner in each room.

+ What is in the kitchen?

The Kitchen is equipped with a convection microwave oven, kettle, toaster and a gas cook top, fridge and freezer, lockable food storage cupboards and additional cupboards for dishes, cutlery, etc (per student). Residents need to provide their own crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, gas lighter, detergent and tea towels.

+ Do I need to know how to cook and who does my laundry?

Cooking is a great life skill and knowing how to make some basic meals is always useful. But No you do not need to know how to cook. Meal packages are available through the CSU Meal Plan and you can buy take away food on campus or from businesses in Wagga Wagga.

St Martin’s College is a self-catered college and most people do their own cooking. You will also need to know how to clean up after yourself in the kitchen so you don't annoy others in your cottage! it is your responsibility to buy your own groceries, do your own cooking and then washing up, drying dishes and putting them away, along with wiping down benches so the kitchen is clean for other people to use.

Knowing how to do your own laundry is also a great life skill and St Martin's is the only College on campus with washing machines and dryers in each cottage. Residents are responsible for washing their own clothes, towels and bed linen.

You are expected to keep your room and cottage clean and tidy at all times.

+ What do I need to bring with me?

St Martin’s residents need to provide their own crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, towel/s, desk lamp, iron, linen (sheets, pillows, quilt/blanket) and any other cooking items. Fan heaters and bar heaters are not allowed in the college but all rooms have individually controlled reverse cycle air conditioners for heating and cooling.

Residents bring their own sheets, pillow and quilt or blankets and the College provides a mattress protector. Linen may be supplied by the College for short term residents or international students for a small additional weekly charge. If you let us know at the time of booking we can organise linen for you.

Students should also bring their own first aid and medical supplies – the college has an emergency first aid kit but does not supply day to day needs such as panadol, bandaids, ice packs etc to students.

+ What access is there to computers and internet?

You need to supply your own laptop. You can connect to the CSU WIFI with Eduroam. CSU IT department has details of how to use the CSU network.

The college provides a Study Common Room in the Fairfax Centre which has a desktop computer connected to the college photocopier. The Study Common is often used for tutoring sessions by groups of students. Students can use the Study Common computer to access the CSU IT network and for printing on the college photocopier.

CSU provides wireless internet access across the campus for WIFI enabled devices. CSU charges residents for internet access each session and St Martin's administers this charge on behalf of the university.

+ Can I get car parking?

Yes. There is no charge for car parking on the CSU Wagga Wagga campus and there are many parking spaces close to St Martin’s cottages.

+ Can I request a specific room?

Only from the second year. But there is not a guarantee that you will get the requested room. You are however, guaranteed a room in St Martin’s College for the duration of your degree as long as you abide by the College rules. This means you do not need to reapply for accommodation each year. If there is a personality clash or an issue between residents we encourage you to try and work it out, seek help from your Resident Advisor or to speak to the Head of College who will organise a room move if no other solution is able to be negotiated. When the College is full a suitable room move may take time to organise.

+ Can I stay in my room over the holidays?

Yes. Your room is available to you for the entire period of you contract including the mid-session breaks. It is also possible to stay over the summer on a new Summer contract if you need to do so. Accommodation for Session 3 (Summer stays) is available by arrangement with the Head of College and a new contract will be issued for the length of stay required.

+ Do I need my own post office box?

No. Your mail is delivered to St Martin’s College, PO Box U1 then the college staff deliver mail to student’s rooms daily.

+ How to apply

Applications for accommodation in St Martin’s College are now open for next year. Go to Apply Now on this website, create a login and complete the details. You will be contacted towards the end of the year about an interview.

Accommodation will be offered on the basis of the “order applications are received and the application process is completed “. Completion of the application process will require an interview with the Head of College and the receipt of a course offering from CSU. Students living at significant distance from the college may be eligible for a skype or phone interview. The College reserves the right to select applicants on the basis of the interview.
