James Turtle

James lived at St Martin’s College from 1999 to 2001 — a time marked by big moments like Y2K and the Sydney Olympics. During his time at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, he studied a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Horticulture, graduating in April 2002.

Back in 1998, James was considering his future study options when he heard great things about both Charles Sturt University and St Martin’s College from resident Christina Peters (originally from Hillston). Christina’s sister Belinda was also moving into Marties the following year. This strong recommendation convinced James to visit — and encouraged his decision to call Marties home.

Living on campus made getting to classes easy, but life at Marties was about much more than study. The social calendar had its highlights too! For James, the annual Saints Ball with St Francis College was a standout event, bringing students together for a fun-filled night that’s still a valued tradition today. And when asked about his favourite memories of living at Marties, James reflects upon the lifelong friendships that were made here.

Like many uni students, James kept things simple and budget-friendly. His go-to meal? A quick, affordable pasta dish — easy to make and perfect for busy uni days.

These days, life looks a little different. James is married with four children and works as the Regional Director for Australasia at an international spray technology manufacturer. After years of working across Australia, he and his family have settled on a 50-acre property just outside Wagga Wagga — not far from where his journey at CSU first began.
